Stumbling Over the Cornerstone

Jesus suffered and died for the sins of the world almost 2,000 years ago. He was buried but arose from the grave three days later, like a rock from the ground. Now in heaven, He offers Himself as a spiritual Rock to fallen man; a Cornerstone set by God upon which rests an eternal dwelling place God is building for Himself. Rev. 21:2-3

How can we sinners get in on this heavenly construction? Those who turn to Jesus by putting their trust in Him for the forgiveness of sins escape eternal death and receive eternal life as living stones set on God's Cornerstone.

Tragically, most will reject the gospel of the free gift of salvation in Christ. God describes this rejection as stumbling over His Cornerstone---falling headlong, past the only escape, down the broad road of destruction and toward the destination that awaits all who are disobedient to the word of the gospel.

What then is this word that must be obeyed to escape eternal death?

Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”  John 6:28-29
